About
Scribble Chicken Studio is a full-service illustration house for the children’s book and education market. Founded in 2005 by Katie Cusack, the studio offers a warm and whimsical style to achieve your project needs.
As a highly creative (and silly) artist, I have a wonderful connection with kids. They often look at me like Santa Claus, or argue that I could not possibly be a ‘Grown-Up.’ I am passionate about both teaching and illustration, so the choice to be a children’s writer and illustrator was a simple one, indeed.
I have filled sketch-book upon sketchbook with my doodles since the tender age of 3. Although my drawings have evolved past one eyed birds and mermaids with shell-boobs, I am still an avid finger-painter. I am constantly inspired by children; their boundless joy and enthusiastic view of the world, the daily reminders to keep things in perspective.
Schooling and such
I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Illustration, 2005. From there I took classes toward a MA in Art Education at Johns Hopkins University. I have teaching experience ranging from toddler to high school age. I was also briefly an editor for a major publisher before deciding to pursue illustration full-time.
Technique
I use a variety of traditional and digital painting techniques, depending on both personal and client preference. Most often I use a combination of watercolor and Photoshop, with a dash of collage for texture.
Clients
I have created artwork for internationally distributed books, greeting cards, prints and web sites. Clients include Zaner-Bloser Educational Publishing, Oxford University Press, Rubicon Publishing, Halo Books and Crescent Hill Books.
